Sustainability and Finance Strategy Steward Group Initial Meeting

Our first Steward Group held its inaugural meeting on February 5th—a significant step in implementing the Flourish Alberta governance structure. This group, the Sustainability and Finance Strategy Steward Group, spent its first session getting to know one another and beginning discussions on the purpose, structure, and function of Steward Groups.Different from the approach of a traditional nonprofit board, this model embraces collaborative facilitation principles, fostering trust and deeper, more meaningful ways of working. Rather than simply overseeing operations, Steward Groups are designed to actively shape and support the initiative through shared leadership and strategic planning.During our discussion, members shared their hopes for what this collaborative approach could achieve. Here are some key highlights:Create organizational foundational structures for this initiative to advance its mission over time[Have] planned, set goals, measured and planned again a place where ideas and concepts are encouraged to be tested and best practices are developedCreate a sustainable model that can be replicated.Become a catalyst for sustainable social innovation models in Alberta?Create a (financial & collaborative) model that strikes the balance we need between governance and creativity.Develop clarity of the 'governance' of Flourish AB to enable collaborative action for impact now and in the future while recognizing the creativity required for collective action.
